The proper laundering and storage of your heirloom garment is very important.
Textiles are very
vulnerable to three things 1) light, 2) extremes of temperature and
3) humidity. They are also susceptable to damage from dust, dirt, mold,
insects and abrasion. Never store soiled textiles or dry clean
them.
Washing Instructions:
Hand wash, gently
squeeze out water. Never twist or wring out the water. Lay flat
to air dry.
You can use starch
when you iron the dress. Please remember to cover any lace with a pressing
cloth. A hot iron will damage the delicate lace.
Storage:
Wash and dry following the above directions. When preparing the garment
for storage do not use starch. Wrap the garment in acid-free
white tissue. It is important that the tissue you use is acid-free.
Then put the wrapped garment in an acid-free cardboard box or simply
place in a dresser drawer.
Do not store the
garment in a cedar chest or a regular cardboard box. Do not store it
in either an airtight container or plastic. Avoid storing textiles in
a damp basement or near direct heat sources.
